Vineyard

One of the world’s most challenging regions to grow grapes. The steep mountainous terrain means vines have to be grown on ancient stone terraces. These terraces make mechanisation virtually impossible everything has to be done by hand (including the harvest) To add to this 40ºC+ Summer temperatures, incredibly low rainfall and well-drained soils means Port vines have some of the lowest yields in the world (e.g. a third of what is produced in a region like Bordeaux). Low yields = highly concentrated fruit

Viticulture

"The grapevines that produce Port are grown in the mountains inland from Porto in a region called the Douro. The Douro is the oldest demarcated wine region in the world, a UNESCO world heritage site & the world’s largest mountain wine region."

Vinification

Medium dry style – longer cooler fermentation gives Blend Nº5 extra dryness (and fewer calories!)

Maturation

After just 3 months resting, the wine is bottled and released. Drink when fresh!
