The 2020 Vermentino is from the Riverland in South Australia. This area is classified as a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and mild winters. Rainfall at the beginning of February did not affect the Vermentino and the rest of February was dry and warm. The two blocks that make up the wine are from the same grower and were harvested over a week apart - due to different management techniques and pruning they ripen at different times, and have therefore slightly different flavour profiles.

The vineyard soils are made up of podsolics - old grey soil over yellow clay, which is sandy and slightly sodic. All the vines have been spur pruned and the vine age is varied. Vines are planted roughly 1.8m apart with 3.6m between the rows to allow machinery access. The Trellis system is generally a single wire cordon.
This blend is made in a traditional style. Each variety was vinified separately, with no skin contact and cold settled. The fermentation took place under strictly controlled cool temperatures, then clarified. The final blend was bottled early to retain its freshness.
After a short period on yeast lees, the parcels were blended, stabilised and filtered for bottling, thus showcasing fresh varietal flavours.
